@pakopako That’s true; but what about THIS watch?
I don’t want to carry an $800+ phone to deal with an $18 watch when I’m running or cycling!
Woe to civilization when GPS and all the servers go down.
I got soured on technology bells and whistles once when my car stalled in the summer heat and I couldn’t even get the windows down without power.
Never had that problem with window cranks. (And a hell of a lot simpler and cheaper to fix.)
@phendrick
Let me rephrase that: smartwatches need a phone (mostly for the SIM card or eSIM equivalent to track you get data like global time because there’s no physical space on the phone to have an interface to interact with)
There are models that don’t need a phone, but that’s because they have the phone part inside (and a slot for a SIM or advertise an eSIM and IMEI number)
I’m in the same “in-between” feeling about human progress: we might be better off with foot powered Flintstones cars because the futuristic electric smart cars are still not smart enough (and created with planned obsolescence to maximize profits now rather than have a quality lifetime experience).

Will it count stairs climbed?
Anyone know if these will function without an app? (Some smart watches don’t even let you set the time without an app.)
@phendrick isn’t that most watches?
There’s almost no physical buttons and they rely on sync with a phone.

@pakopako Thanks for the links. I’ll check them out in the later morning.
