Obligatory comment to tell people who have been waffling on this product so far to buy one. It’s $20 and if you like pretty lights and colors, you’ll love this thing!
@adamwesv although I trust this company more than some completely unknown Chinese company, that’s a no for me, dawg. Never install an APK that you don’t know exactly what’s in it.
/giphy it’s a no for me dawg
This is not the first product I’ve dealt with this month that somehow can’t keep an app up to date in the Play Store but has an iOS app. I thought it would be harder/more restrictive to maintain an iOS app, but I’m clearly wrong there.
@adamwesv@djslack I don’t think there’s an apk out there that you know everything that’s in it. I also don’t think the great identity theft scam of the millenium will be accomplished using an app designed to control projector lights. I mean they could sneak whatever they want into any random apk or an official app on the legit stores, and 99.9% of people would never know or be affected by it. Anyone carrying any smartphone at this point is susceptible to someone gaining access to all their information, from some low level thief to a foreign government. I guess my point is that this apk could be harmful, but it’s most likely not going to affect anyone, at least no more than anything they’ve already willingly downloaded or installed in their homes.
@warpedrotors you are absolutely correct. The only apk out there that I would know everything in it is the one I created myself. And everything else you said is right. But the line I draw to feel better about my phone is downloading an APK from a link and lettin’ 'er rip. That’s just me.
@adamwesv
But do you, or does anyone else here know if you really need the app just to use it as a pretty light with rando effects?
Or does everyone who bought one use the app?
I’d prefer it just come on by timer, play randomly, and then turn off by timer…
Thanks for any information pertinent to this question!

@adamwesv@PhysAssist it works without the app, but you lose some of the adjustability and features. I think you can still cycle through all the patterns and colors, but you can’t customize or anything.
Sweet! My 2 year old is just getting into this in his room. We’ve had a blue on blue one for a year or more but he’s only recently decided he likes it. But the problem is he absolutely will not close his eyes to sleep with it on.
The original sky lights have no timer or remote, though. So I have to go turn it off. I’ve gotten a competitor with a remote off Amazon but it is nowhere near as good quality - the stars aren’t as crisp and go way too far down the wall/in your face, and the nebula is crappy looking compared to the Sky Lite even though it’s RGB. So even though the android app may have a giant red flag, and the iOS one has mixed reviews, I want to give it a shot because the display is way better than the no name competitors and the timer function could make it perfect for my needs.
Question:
I’m looking to get one or two, primarily to let my 4 and 2 year olds play with it in a dark room.
So my question is: I imagine there is risk of injury if they walk up and look directly into the lens of this thing to see where the colors are coming from?
@Drez143 my 5 year old one time became mesmerized by it and complained he couldn’t stop staring into the lasers. Supposedly these are refracted enough to be safe except if you stare into it for a” long time “.
I recommended constant supervision. Blindness sucks.
@Drez143 class 2 laser is what it says on bottom of mine. We are currently making breakfast and the boys are watching the nebula and making fart jokes. It’s a great life. Cheers.
@Drez143 Regardless of injury, it’s unpleasant to accidently look into them. So it is a good idea to place the projector high enough that it’s difficult to do that.
@Drez143 it can be ran with just the nebula. For iOS, the app is in the App Store. It connects via Bluetooth , and has more options. But even if you don’t use the app, you have options without the lasers on for when you’re not in the room.
I have the cheaper version of this ( no app). My young kids like it, we had a dance party with it last night. For anyone over the age of maturity I think the novelty wears off in about 5 minutes. Would be a pretty bright night light. The “stars”/ blue laser dots only kinda move but are boring and slow. The “nebula “ is alright but the throw isn’t that great. Not sure why you would have this to meditate if your eyes are closed. Guess if you did a lot of drugs before hand it could be kinda interesting.
These are fantastic. We bought one new for my daughter a couple years ago with the green stars and she’s used it almost daily. The blue stars are definitely superior. I’ve purchased 5 or 6 of them from meh now. Gave one to a friend’s adult daughter for Xmas, and then my friend wanted one too! If I didn’t still have one waiting for a home I would buy more to have on hand for last minute gifts.
Heads up, there are definitely some quality control issues on the refurbs. We got one of these last time they were available here, and the rotation stopped working after 7 hours of operation. I found other accounts from people with the same issue, but it still works otherwise, and meh was kind enough to issue a refund.
Even without rotation, it makes for a great vibe, so we grabbed a second one. Here’s hoping it’s a little sturdier.
I bought one last time, and it is great. The problem is the buttons on the side don’t work at all. I just unplug it or plug it in to use it. But I don’t have any options other than the standard I just turned it on, that’s all I get.
Ok, yeah, I gotta admit… It is kinda cool- stupid but cool. My android version was too new for the “legacy app” so I came back to the Meh site and got the link to the version that works. The Bluetooth connection was almost immediate and works pretty slick. A good part of my ceiling is well lit from this gadget. Anyway, pretty happy with silly thing.
Slick that once you set the timer and display mode up with the app, it keeps those settings. There is a power on timer too though I haven’t messed with that.
When you plug it into power it automatically comes on so it’s a great candidate for a smart plug.

@PooltoyWolf Owner of four Blisslights. Completely agree!
There is nothing new under the Meh.
Fakespot would like to have a chat about those 24,000 reviews.
Is a Meh-ration like a Meh-rathon with smaller quantities?
@warpedrotors you have to meh-ration after the meh-pocalypse, or as some call it, Ar-meh-geddon.
Also, having to provide a link to an .apk file to download their app outside of the Google Playstore is a giant red flag.
@adamwesv although I trust this company more than some completely unknown Chinese company, that’s a no for me, dawg. Never install an APK that you don’t know exactly what’s in it.

@adamwesv @djslack Maybe because there are more flavors of Android floating around on phones? Or perhaps simply more of the people buying have iphones.
@adamwesv @djslack yeah, if it makes it into Apple’s App Store, it’s okay.
@adamwesv @djslack I don’t think there’s an apk out there that you know everything that’s in it. @djslack I understand completely. It’s better to be safe than sorry, unless you want pretty lights. I’m gonna yolo it up and cross my fingers.

@djslack if you use the app, it absolutely does have a timer. (Shortest time is one hour, which is a bit strange to me.)
App has has a few more options, too.
@haydesigner right, thanks for the detail on one hour. I can work with that.

@qazxto apparently this is exactly the one I have. It has Bluetooth. Only needs 5w at 1a (can run off phone battery backup).
I bought one from SideDeal awhile back, I love it. Put it on my tower PC and it lights up the room while I play games, looks great!
Picked one of these up the last time they were around and we love it. My only knock is that it turns on automatically after a power outage.
Apparently I am a bird that pecks at shinny things. I just bought one. I am so ashamed.

Anyone else’s order cancelled? Was hoping to have this as a present for nieces…
Mine was cancelled as well - I just came here to see if there was a reason why…
@Serafyna Check with the CS people, meh.com/support for that Usually, what happens is that the supplier had fewer of them than were promised.
